Journey to a hill station

Last summer 1 made a trip to Darjeeling, the Queen of the Hill Stations. It was a fascinating experience. We travelled to New Jalpaiguri by the Darjeeling Mail. There we got into the toy train. Oh ! what an experience it was ! The train moved very slowly through the Terai in a zigzag course. The streams, tea gardens, seasonal flowers and the beautiful greenery of the forests on either side of the railway track presented a picturesque scene. The seven hour journey was a wonderful experience. Darjeeling holds so many attractions for the tourists. We first went to the zoo and saw many wild animals. The famous Lloyds Botanical Garden was full of rare orchids and trees and plants of various species. One early morning we drove to the Tiger Hill from where we had a fine view of the sunrise and the Kanchanjungha that was looking magnificent in the glittering rays of the rising sun. We also visited Lebong race course, the beautiful monastery at Ghoom, Governor's House, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and so many other spots. Visit to the Mall was a part of our daily routine. The visit to Darjeeling was thus an occasion of great joy to me.
