Article এর ব্যবহারের নিয়ম
A, An এবং The -এর ব্যবহার
1) সাধারণত শব্দের শুরুতে Vowel থাকলে তার আগে an এবং Consonant থাকলে a হবে ।
যেমন- an elephant, an inkpot, a pen, a chair, an open hearted man, a fool, a passenger.
2) শব্দের শুরুতে silent H থাকলে তার আগে an এবং sounded H থাকলে তার আগে a হবে ।
যেমন– a house, an hour, an honest man, an heir, an honourable person, a high school.
3) শব্দের শুরুতে যে কোন Vowel থাকলে তার উচ্চারণ যদি ‘ট’ -এর মত হয় তবে তার আগে a হবে ।
যেমন- a university, a unique opportunity, a European, a ewe.
4) U এর উচ্চারণ যদি 'আ' মত হয় তবে তার আগে an হবে ।
যেমন- an umbrella, an ugly person, an upper class passenger.
5) O এর উচ্চারণ যদি ‘ওয়া’ -এর মত হয় তবে তার আগে a হবে ।
যেমন- a one rupee note, a one eyed boy, a one act drama, a once famous man.
6) Vowel -এর উচ্চারণ বিশিষ্ট বর্ণের আগে an হবে ।
যেমন - an MBBS, a BA, an MP, a B.Com, an MBA, a BSc, an FRCS, a PhD, an MA.
শুধুমাত্র The- এর ব্যবহার
কোন ব্যক্তি, বস্তু বা প্রাণীকে নির্দিষ্ট করে বোঝাতে হলে The ব্যবহার করতে হয় |
যেমন- বইটি = The book, উড়ন্ত পাখিগুলো = The flying birds |
1) ধর্ম বইয়ের আগে- The Gita, The Quran, The Bible.
2) চন্দ্র, সূর্য, গ্রহ, নক্ষত্রের আগে– The Sun, The Earth, The Moon.
3) নদী, সাগর, উপসাগরের আগে The Ganga, The Indian Ocean.
4) একাধিক দ্বীপের আগে- The Andamans.
5) বিখ্যাত জাহাজের আগে– The Titanic, The Britania.
6) সংবাদ পত্রের নামের আগে- The Times of India, The Telegraph, The Anandabazar Patrika, The Bartaman.
7) জাতীয় বস্তুর আগে– The National Anthem, The National Museum.
8) জাতীয় দিবসের আগে- The Victory Day, The Independence Day.
9) ঐতিহাসিক স্থাপত্য কীর্তির আগে– The Taj Mahal, The Great Wall of China.
10) রাষ্ট্রীয় উপাধির আগে- The Bharat Ratna, The Paramvir Chakra.
11) বিখ্যাত বন-জঙ্গলের আগে- The Sundarbans.
12) বিখ্যাত মরুভূমির আগে- The Sahara Desert, The Gobi Desert, The Thar Desert.
13) তারিখের আগে- I will meet Jaya on the 1st October.
14) দুইয়ের মধ্যে ভাল কিংবা মন্দ বোঝাতে- Of the two girls, Anamika is the more sweet, Of the two things, buy the less costly.
15) জাতি বোঝাতে– The rich should not hate the poor.
16) নির্দিষ্ট করে বোঝাতে- The kindness of Ram is known to all. The water of this pond is polluted.
17) Superlative degree -এর আগে– Shyam is the best actor in this city
টি-টা, খানা-খানি থাকলেও যেখানে The ব্যবহার হবে না
1) Possessive case -এর পর noun এর সাথে টি-টা, খানা-খানি থাকলেও the হবে না । যেমন- আমার বইটা = my book, আমাদের গাড়িটা = our car.
2) Which -এর পর noun -এর সাথে the হবে না । যেমন- বইটি = which book, কোন ছেলেটা = which boy.
3) সংখ্যার সাথে the হয় না । পাঁচটি ফুলের তোড়া = Five bouquets.
4) নির্দিষ্ট করে না বোঝালে বা গোনা যাবে না এমন Material & Abstract noun -এর আগে- Kindness is a virtue. Water has no colour. Honesty is the best policy.
5) দিন বা মাসের নামের আগে- I will meet you on Monday in June.
6) হ্রদের নামের আগে- Caspian is the largest lake in the world.
7) একটি মাত্র দ্বীপ বা পর্বতের আগে- Sandwip is an island. Mount Everest is the highest peak in the world.
8) জাতি বোঝাতে– man/woman -এর আগে- Woman is credulous. Man is mortal.
9) ভাষার নামের আগে– He speaks English fluently. কিন্তু ভাষার নাম Adjective- এর মত ব্যবহৃত হলে তখন হবে– The English language is a rich language.
10) রোগের নামের আগে- He died of AIDS. He is suffering from Fever. আবার ব্যতিক্রমও আছে– He is suffering from the gout. He is suffering from the Mumps. He is suffering from the Measles.
