Self-help means doing our own work ourselves. The are men in our society who don't exert themselves at all, but will have things done for them. They are rarely successful. The most successful man is he who depends the least on others and has a strength of mind and determination to succeed on his own. If we try to do our work ourselves, we have the satisfaction of doing it our own way. Even if it is not done well, we don't grumble or feel bitter. Moreover, nothing is sweeter than the fruits of our own exertion. It generates self-confidence which goads us to achieve further success. The habit of self-help should be acquired early in life. Children should not be helped too much to arrange either their books or clothes. If we look around, we find that there are amples of countries as well as individuals who have earned distinction through self-help. Actually, self-help is the best help and India should stop moving around the world with a begging bowl for economic aid. With her huge natural resources, she can build her own future by properly utilizing her manpower. If an all out effort is made in that direction, India can be a superpower by self-reliance alone.
